SipExchange 0.0.4a released

SipExchange gets a technology face-lift

June 03, 2007,
Raleigh, NC.

We are pleased to announce the public release of SipExchange r0.0.4a. This is an Alpha release to give users a preview of the system. The initial releases of SipExchange used underlying software technologies that are being now replaced with more powerful  and advanced technologies. For some time, we have been considering migrating to newer technologies so that SipExchange can take full advantage of the recent advances. This release is one of a number of releases that will move SipExchange to the latest technologies. In this release, we have migrated the back-end business logic to the latest J2EE technology. In the upcoming releases, we will migrate the web-based user interface to a newer technology. Although the end-user will see no new SIP features with this release, but it will allow us to offer new features in future releases much more easily and quickly.

SipExchange is an open-source softswitch that provides standard SIP services like registration, proxy and presence. Using the SipExchange application, service providers can offer telephone services to their subscribers as well as other services based on voice, video and instant messaging. SipExchange supports many of the standard subscriber features offered by the traditional telephone exchanges and PBXs. In addition, SipExchange supports external call control capabilities using which service providers and software developers can create new features and services rapidly and plug them into the SipExchange application.

The following are the highlights of the release.
  1. SipExchange now is developed using the EJB3 architecture. The EJB3 architecture is the latest J2EE specification for enterprise application development. Although the end user do not see any difference but it is now much easier to develop back-end business logic because of this new technology.
  2. Initial (experimental) support for web services is provided.
  3. The automated unit tests have been revamped.
  4. A number of bugs have been fixed.
